This Life's Not About Me.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your path straight." -- Proverbs 3:5-6

I’m probably more sensitive about this subject than others, but I’m sure there are other people who feel the same way as I do.

I am not insulting the value of what you do with your life & the hard work it takes to get there.
I am not taking away from the amazing opportunities college offers.
I am not bashing academics, because I think they are very important.

BUT! What gets under my skin is the assumptions we make today based off of these things. We cannot measure other’s intellect, heart, passion, skill, and soul based off of what they do, where they went/go/didn’t go to school, and what their ACT score is. I’m holding myself accountable to this, too! I just know I’ve been discouraged many times because people have made assumptions regarding these things. God has a unique plan for each person, and He made us all completely different! Isn’t that amazing? We are not all called to go the same places, do the same things, or achieve a certain grade academically. We are called to love, to serve, to worship, and to share the Gospel all over the world. God allows those callings to move in different ways, shapes, and sizes in each of us. It’s something I’m coming to embrace more & more. I’m thankful that He sees our hearts and sees who we will all become. Take heart! You have greater things ahead. Where you’re at right now doesn’t necessarily define you. Let Christ take precedent of all the standards the world tries to hold us to. Trust Him, seek Him wholeheartedly, and pursue what you feel Him leading you to do.

Personally, I want to be slower to make assumptions and get to know who people really are. I want to hear their stories, learn about their hobbies, understand their sense of humor, appreciate their personality, their hopes, their dreams, and love them for who they are in Jesus’ sight.

Wow…sometimes…I’m just pretty….wow.

The city looks so peaceful from up here.
Anything is peaceful from one thousand three hundred and fifty three feet.

Moving Backwards | Ben Rector

Standing still isn’t easy
When the world’s moving backwards

And I pray that you’ll give us grace if you can hear me
You’ll give us grace
You’ll give us grace
You’ll give us grace

is such a true statement.

We think we want something, but after a while of having what we want, we wish we could go back…or move forward…

Contentment and joy aren’t necessarily tangible by our own desires and standards. Only God can bring us those things. Preaching to myself on this one.
